Michael Perkins, Dip. Law SAB (Supreme Court of NSW), is a third generation lawyer who continues the professional heritage of his family in serving private clients, their families, and their business interests. Michael has more than 25 years of experience in trusts, estates, and private client practice.
He is particularly interested in the challenges faced by families who seek to retain their wealth for multiple generations, businesses that remain in family ownership following the retirement of their founders, and clients who are connected concurrently to multiple legal jurisdictions.
Michael considers himself to be an estate practitioner and not simply a lawyer. He brings a multi-disciplinary approach to family challenges, calling upon the expertise of accountants, tax advisors, and financial planners where necessary.
Michael holds the TEP designation (trust and estates practitioner) with the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners ( STEP: www.step.org ). He is Chair of the Business Family Special Interest Group of STEP Adelaide and a member of the Business Family Steering Group of STEP Worldwide.
Michael lectures in Estate Planning at the Faculty of Law of the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a member of the Conduct Review Commission of the Financial Planning Association of Australia Ltd and is a lecturer for Estplan Pty Limited ( www.estplan.com.au ), a company that educates professional advisers.
Michael’s many publications include Financial Planning in Australia (contributor, 3rd Edition, LexisNexis 2008), Estate Planning: a Practical Guide for Estate and Financial Service Professionals (co-author, 3rd Edition, LexisNexis 2011), and Private Wealth Practice Guide for Lawyers, an ebook published by Smokeball Publishing (sole author, 2011).
