A structured process for planning at the strategic level (but also considering business, operations and offerings levels) in which an organisation defines its vision, mission, goals and objectives - over the longer term - and decides how to achieve them. Involves mapping the environments of law, economics, science, technology, business and politics. Strategy is a senior management responsibility. Given uncertainty and serendipity, strategic planning should concentrate on the strategic planning process rather than the plan itself. Building strategic attitudes based on perception, commitment and competency is more important than a strategic plan.
